Lighthouse
The Light House is a beacon of light that shimmers & dances with the images of the
community. It is both a comforting symbol of being home and a warning of danger
where water meets the shore.

The Light House is a large cube with projected images on 4 sides.

The descent down the hill crescendos when you become surrounded by moving images and ambient music.

The images will all be preformed live by a VideoOrgan from images around the neighborhood and dancers will interact with the light during the night.

  1. I am getting excited. Everything is coming together and the project is becoming a real reflection of the community.

I will be playing the visual imagery live with my video organ that has been shot in the neighborhood. All the collaborators are from the area, the dancers teach at the local dance school and the ambient environment sound scape was created by someone who lives on Withrow Ave.

Please come see the lightHouse Saturday night in Cabbagetown Nuit Blanche. It’s an new media experience located in Riverdale Park East, by the farm. ALL NIGHT.

The idea of the lightHouse was the fusion of a couple early ideas. First it was a dance piece called Duet, a dance with you and technology and yourself. When the harshness of media was broken down into a very human moment when you would dance with yourself and the moving images of dancers on the walls and through the space.

Then a light bulb went off. The lightHouse stems from the Mcluhan idea that the light bulb is pure message. It’s a 10 foot cube with 4 projectors and 4 speakers bringing it to life. We will be playing the lightHouse LIVE. Mixxing visual rhythms shot in the area on the videoOrgan. From pouffy flowers floating in the wind to tearing down Regent park. Overlaid with a series of dance loops.

Come and try on some light. We have 20 white dresses from one of the local dance schools. And for those of us that don’t have a dancers body, there is a coat rack of white painters coveralls with some of mcluhan’s more famous quotes on the back. like, “how do you like this rear view image”

The project has really has come full circle. Its a dance piece that reflects the community where you become the screen.
